A Fireside Discussion with KeepRight (an interoperable protocol for keeping things long-term)
| Wed Aug 5, 16:00-17:00 (4 days from now) | |
Abstract: In this seminar, George Oates from Deep Keep will hold a 20 minute fireside conversation about their recently launched project KeepRight, "an open protocol to record and share instructions for keeping things long-term".
The discussion will introduce the new protocol, why it was created, and what place it might have in the context of digital governance.
Slides will be shared before the event. Metagov Community Member Cent Hosten will host the fireside discussion, as well as 30 minutes of open discussion with attendees to follow.
This will be interesting for members of the Metagov community because KeepRight points towards a way that communities and individuals can describe how they want digital artifacts to be stewarded over time, and attach those descriptions to items (governance related or not) in ways that could enable an interoperable ecosystem of archive providers to respect and execute on what might be thought of as preservation contracts. KeepRight also compliments copyright concerns, so those with a copyright background may be especially interested.
